Support for Education

Primary education and general basic education in Costa Rica are compulsory which accounts for their very high literacy rate of nearly 95%. Though the system is said to be free, many cannot afford the required uniforms and rural schools do not provide books for students. Government funding pays for teachers’ salaries, but many of the other basic needs – like books, uniforms, school supplies and building maintenance  often are out of reach for poor farming families or schools in rural areas.

In all cases we try to find funding paretners as well as expecting the local school board to share expences.
